IIAS to get new chairperson

Kapil Kapoor, a widely-respected academic will be the next chairperson of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) at Shimla. He will replace Chandrakala Padia. Mr. Kapoor taught at JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) for a few decades and has been a professor till 2005 at the Centre for Linguistic and English Studies. At the same time, he was professor at the Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies at JNU, which has now became the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies. He is currently Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya at Wardha. He has made an epistemological cut in English Studies as the pioneer in India in introducing key texts of Indian thought in English Studies in the 1970s, thus he reversed theory-text study hierarchy in English Studies that leaned towards Western texts and ideas.
